How to triangulate in IRON NEST

Triangulation is the hardest mechanic for new Operators, and the simplest mistake is treating a spotter bearing as the turret bearing. It is not. A spotter tells you where the threat is from their position — you still need to draw the line from your own gun.

The Bearing Error

The most common bad shot is copying a spotter bearing straight into the turret. Spotter reports, distance reports, corrections, railway waypoints, and vessel courses all help you locate a point — but they are not automatically the bearing that goes into the turret.

Two-Spotter Intersection

  • Plot bearing from Spotter 1
  • Plot bearing from Spotter 2
  • Mark where the two lines cross — that is the target
  • Draw one final line from your current position to that point
  • Use that line for bearing and range

Position Reports After Movement

After an Emergency Move, a single Position Report can leave Iron Nest somewhere along an entire line. If your next shot depends on the exact firing origin, buy the second report rather than guessing.

Quick answer: two spotter bearings locate the target, then draw a fresh line from your current position to the intersection. That final line is your turret bearing and range.
